CS Machogu Promises JSS Teachers That May Salaries Will be Paid on time. According to Ezekiel Machogu, the cabinet secretary for education, the more than 35,000 junior secondary school teachers who were recently hired should get their salaries as soon as is practically possible.
Yesterday, the CS expressed his concern that more than 50% of the teachers employed by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) had not yet received payment during his appearance before the National Assembly plenary for questioning by MPs.

Some of the teachers haven’t gotten paid since they started working days in February.
“I would like to apologise to our teachers for the payment delay. Some of them we haven’t been to yet.
The CS was replying to a question from Nominated MP Sabina Chege over the delayed wage payments.
He said that the teachers’ various reporting schedules at the schools where they were employed caused the wages to be delayed.
The Kenya Updates media team conducted a spot check and discovered that some teachers reported to their workstations in February while others did so in March.
According to Machaogu, the principals must complete an evaluation and send it to the ministry, and the teachers must report to their workstations within 30 days.
“We rely on the principals’ awareness of the specific days they report in order to schedule payment after posting them. There may have been delays in the processing of salaries since some employees started their jobs later than others. I want to reassure them, nevertheless, that they will be paid on schedule.
The TSC stated on Monday that it was working to ensure that the last group of instructors received their remuneration in May.
“We apologise for any delays resulting by teachers reporting to their stations after business hours or from necessary documentation being submitted after the due date.
The commission stated in a statement that every effort is being made to implement all wages in May.
In response to Isiolo MP Bonaya Golo, Machogu stated that steps were being done to equip the educational facilities by building additional classrooms and laboratories to handle the increase in students.
Our lack of labs and classrooms is one problem.
We have decided to use the money we expect to get to support us while we work with our development partner, the World bank, to address the infrastructure problem.
Golo was curious as to why the Northern counties’ adoption of the Competency-Based Curriculum was understaffed and poorly supported.
